Voice Centre
Vocal expression, direct from the centre of you.
The creation of your word being taken seriously and communicating with empathy and compassion is a powerful way of being that will benefit every aspect of your life.
In today’s competitive world, how you present and express yourself is a vitally important skill to possess, not just in school, but also later in life. Those who learn vocal and presentation skills early in their lives have a great advantage. Competing for university places and the workplace has become increasingly difficult. Studying elocution, voice production and taking LAMDA or New Era Academy exams do not involve writing but teach vitally important life skills such as public speaking, presentation technique, voice projection and clear diction.

What are LAMDA exams?
LAMDA exams are all about helping young people find their voice.

Run by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, one of the world’s oldest drama schools, these exams have been inspiring confidence and creativity since the 1890s.
Students can explore a whole range of skills, like Acting and Public Speaking. The most popular choices are Acting, Speaking Verse and Prose, and Speaking in Public, Musical Theatre, all designed to boost confidence, communication and self-belief.
LAMDA exams work a bit like music grades, starting at Entry Level and building up to Grade 8. There are also fun Introductory exams for younger learners. And the best part? There’s no age limit, anyone can jump in and discover what they’re capable of.
Each exam has its own focus: performing characters, sharing poetry and prose, or writing and delivering your own speeches. As students move up through the grades, they also build a deeper understanding of voice, performance and presentation.
LAMDA exams can even earn UCAS points, which is a great bonus for anyone heading to university. More importantly, they give young people the confidence to walk into any room (an interview? a classroom? a stage? a lecture hall? a wedding party?) and speak with pride.
In short: LAMDA exams build skills that last a lifetime. Confidence, clarity, and the courage to be heard.

What People Think

I just wanted to let you know that Dominic came first in the poetry competition at Dulwich College. Everyone was surprised to see a new boy from year 7 win! It is a highly competitive competition at Dulwich and has never won by a year 7 boy before. We have to put Dominic’s success down to you! He remembers everything you taught him and worked on his piece with you in mind. Thank you for all your amazing help over the years.

Thank you so much for that. You’ve brought tears to my eyes. I’m so touched by your words. Thank you. He loves your classes, your productions and thank you for bringing out the magic in Charlie – he can be so shy, and you’ve done wonders for his confidence, and we are so grateful for that.

I intended to contact you after the Bromley Festival to say thank you for your hard work with Alex and to congratulate you for your part in him winning first place in this his first ever public performance.

I had the pleasure of speaking to (headmaster) on Results Day, who encouraged me to share some exciting news about my daughter, now performing, singing, and songwriting. While entering her second year studying Architecture at the University of Bath, she continues to pursue her passion for music. The strong academic and creative foundation she built at Newstead Wood—particularly through LAMDA with Kate Crane & Rachel Eben—was invaluable. Her Grade 8 Distinctions in Musical Theatre and Acting gave her the confidence to perform and create.”
